BACK TO BUSINESS

Boasters League round 1~~

Can you believe it? We are only 352 days away from Christmas! Strangely, as organized as my wife is, she hasn’t yet started preparing for it, in fact, our 2019 Christmas tree is still up and decorated in the living room… Sacrilege! I hope Santa was kind to everybody these past holidays, I could see that he appeared to bring a lot more food and drink than usual, which of course many of you felt obliged to indulge… Good news is that the squash league has started up again and it is the perfect opportunity for you all to get back to fighting weight!

However… getting to the club is one thing, actually getting on the court seemed to be another. Seven of the eight teams last night picked up more bonus points than actual squash points! At least we saw a lot of faces, now we need to see those faces running around on the other side of the glass walls.

Mongoose park themselves in their familiar top spot on the ladder although I wouldn’t read too much into that just yet since Wardogs and Vivio’s are tied with them. Over Served and Butter Nutz are sputtering out of the gate, they had the fewest bonus points between them - hence their ladder positions after round 1. I am sure people will start to get active very quickly though…

There was a lot more team shuffling at the half-way mark than I would have liked to have seen. This was due to the more than usual amount of players that dropped out because of either injury or simple time commitment. There are numerous new bodies to the league this half.

Plenty of huffing and puffing from the matches that were completed yesterday. Justin Winkelman (Winky-Dinks) started his second half campaign with a 2-1 win over Curt Pedersen (Over Served). Justin can now relax for all his remaining matches knowing that he won’t be playing anyone else taller than he is.

JB Peabody (Butter Nutz) found himself on the painful side of a narrow loss against a much younger set of legs and lungs in Andrew Peleman (Nicker Ballers). Andrew’s hustle got the better of JB in the end, although I can’t remember noting whether JB was wearing is infallible lobster shorts… which would be like cutting Samson’s hair and robbing him of his super-power. I have a feeling we may see those lobster shorts make a very quick appearance in the coming weeks.

The season is under way, albeit a little sluggish. Just do your best not to let your matches accumulate. Play them early if need be. But play them.
